| In March 2000, distribution of Mayfield's Select Ice Cream was expanded farther into Alabama territory after Dean Foods Co. purchased Barber Dairies in Birmingham, Alabama in 1999 via Barber's distribution system.
In November 2000, Barber Dairies began production of Mayfield Select ice cream.
In 2002, Mayfield Dairy took over the operations of Barber Dairies' ice cream plant and it was renamed Mayfield Ice Cream. This allowed for additional production/distribution of ice cream into the Alabama and Florida markets.
As of August 2005, ice cream distribution facilities in Alabama are located as follows:
Birmingham - Double Springs - Mobile - Montgomery - Oxford - Rainsville - Smiths Station
Currently, the Birmingham plant has 170 employees. |
